Project Uganda

The Ricola Foundation, in collaboration with Swisscontact, is now supporting a project in Uganda. Beekeepers there are trained and supported to set up small businesses to ensure that the country is in a position to produce sufficient quality honey. Consumers in Uganda like honey, but shops only sell cheap imported goods, despite the fact that plenty of people in the country produce honey for their own use.

The aim of the project is to fight poverty, increase incomes and create a sustainable living for beekeepers, cocoa farmers and other people involved in these two value-added chains.

On 25 September 2014, a delegation from Swisscontact, including the project coordinator in Uganda, Ms Tania Haïdara, visited Ricola in Laufen and signed the agreement to collaborate over the coming years.
